Feature-length Movie | Comedy, Romance

Synopsis

He’s back on the market!

Helen Honeycutt is obsessed with her seemingly perfect classmate, champion diver and student body president Beau Darling. But when she tries to confess her love at their high school graduation party, she’s interrupted by Beau’s beer-drinking best buddy, Don Lowe, and the town’s meanest hottie, Amber, who whisks Beau away.

Twenty years of unrequited pining later, a resigned Helen chugs champagne at Beau and Amber Darling’s anniversary party. She commiserates with longtime best friends—salty architect Trish Gunning and excitable single mom Phoebe Smothers—who are also infatuated with Beau. Amber brags about her charmed life to the three gals, when Beau reveals her anniversary gift—a cherished grand piano. As a crane lifts it up, Amber ignores warnings, accidentally pulls the wrong rope and CRUSHES HERSELF, a la Wile E. Coyote.

At Amber’s funeral, Helen’s hopes to become the next “Mrs. Darling” evaporate when she sees every woman in town has come to claim their place as Beau’s second wife. Hoping to get ahead of the pack, Helen brings a casserole over to Beau’s house, only to get interrupted by the subsequent arrivals of Trish and Phoebe, who come with similar intentions. Helen chastises her friends for violating “girl code,” when they discover a much younger woman has already moved into Beau’s house—the beautiful and multi-talented French au pair, Marguerite Petite, who is adored by Beau and his adopted children, Chip and Bella.

Helen, Trish, and Phoebe observe Marguerite’s flagrant flirting from afar before resolving to take her down by sabotaging her at the upcoming Summer FunFest. But to their chagrin, Marguerite outbakes Phoebe in the Pie Bake-Off, outruns Trish in the Obstacle Course, and outplays Helen during the high-stakes Texas Hold ‘Em game—all of which impresses Beau. The gals lament losing Beau to a babe yet again. But when Marguerite tells the gals to back off, she lets her faux French accent slip into her natural hillbilly twang.

With the help of Harvey Musso, a pastrami-loving private investigator, Helen, Trish, and Phoebe discover that Marguerite Petite is actually Margaret “Mad Madge” Pettit, a casino-cheating, car-jacking con artist from the seedy trailer parks of Lake Tahoe. During Beau’s 4th of July party, the gals confront Marguerite and threaten to expose her unless she leaves. Despite her love for Beau, Marguerite has no choice but to go.

However, Marguerite’s sudden and unexplained departure sends Beau Darling into a funk, one that even the fun-loving Don can’t remedy. When Helen discovers Beau at rock bottom—bloated, alone and eating her three-month-old casserole in a filthy house—she realizes that Beau needs Marguerite/Madge. Apologetic, the gals convince a reluctant Madge to confess her love and true identity at Beau’s 40th birthday party. But after all Beau’s been through, will he even want a second wife?
