James Becket

James (Jim) Becket brings a varied career to his filmmaking as a journalist, book author, human rights lawyer, and Director of Public Information for the UN Refugee Agency in Geneva. Moving to LA in 1971, the majority of his professional life has been as a screenwriter, director, and producer of features and series.

Among James feature films are Que Hacer? (1972): Critics’ Award—Cannes Film Festival, Natural Causes with Will Patton and Ali McGraw (1994): Best Foreign Film—Houston Film Festival, The Best Revenge with Robert Pine (1995): Winner Best Feature—Breckenridge Film Festival, Plato’s Run with Roy Scheider and Gary Busey (1996), and Southern Cross with Malcolm McDowell, and Michael Ironside (1999).

His many television projects as writer and/or director of television projects include Je Suis un Refugie (1979): First Prize—Cork Film Festival, Sanctuary (1982): Cindy Awards—Best in Festival awards, Crime Story (1988), Miami Vice (1988), Fast Forward (1994): Humanitas Award, and Guns in School (1993): George Foster Peabody Award.

James has a documentary track record that is equally impressive with Diagnosis Epilepsy: Now what? (2006): Winner 2007 Telly Award, Sons of Africa (2014) Winner Best Documentary—Seattle Independent Film Festival and Borrego Springs Festival, and the critically-acclaimed The Seeds of Vandana Shiva (2020) with Camilla Denton.

Jim has a B.A. from Williams College (with Highest Honors). He graduated from Harvard Law School, was a Fulbright Scholar from Instituto de Economia, University of Chile, and is a Graduate of Institute of International Studies, Geneva, Switzerland.
