Executive Producer

David Frei

David’s voice has become as familiar as the woof of a beloved family pet during his 26 years as the lead commentator of the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Clad in a tuxedo, he re-enters the lives of dog enthusiasts each February for two nights of prime-time canine analysis and storytelling. The role has turned him into one of the most famous human beings in the dog universe, a genial know-it-all and the only dog show analyst whom millions of people have ever seen, save for Fred Willard’s goofball version in the mockumentary Best in Show—which was inspired by David. He called his final Westminster show last February ending his impressive rein.

A longtime breeder-owner-handler and judge in the world of purebred dogs, he has enjoyed much success with his Afghan Hounds and Brittanys. The most famous was the #1 Afghan in 1989 who retired as the top-winning female in the history of the breed. He is proudest of the fact that his Brittanys are registered therapy dogs that visit people in hospitals, nursing homes and hospice every week.

David has made many appearances on The Today Show, Good Morning America, The Early Show, Ellen, The View, Martha Stewart, and more. He has been director of communications for the Westminster Kennel Club since 2003. David also has been co-host on NBC of The National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day since its inception, a telecast seen by about 20 million viewers every year. David is the co-author, with Mike Lingenfelter, of The Angel By My Side, a critically-acclaimed best seller about a heroic service dog, published in 2002. And in 2004, he appeared in one of the final episodes of the HBO hit series, Sex And The City, playing a dog show judge, of course.

In addition to the technical expertise he will provide Unleashed, we look forward to having David play a dog show judge in the series. We couldn’t ask for a better fit for the role!
